Exploring how math changes lives in Africa – a University of Michigan experience

Michigan + Math + Africa

A math conference is much more than a gathering of a people talking about numbers. It’s an opportunity to share ideas, seek inspiration and make new connections . It can change careers and even lives. This is especially true when the conference takes place in Africa. The purpose of this blog is to tell the stories of those involved in the Buea International Conference on the Mathematical Sciences in the western African nation of Cameroon.

William Foreman, global communications manager at U-M.

Math was William Foreman’s worst subject and he has no idea what’s written on this blackboard, but that’s not stopping him from having a fascinating time at the Buea International Conference on the Mathematical Sciences.

Most of the blog’s content – stories, photos and videos – was created by William Foreman, global communications manager at the University of Michigan. His trip to Cameroon was made possible¬†with funding from U-M’s Africa Studies Center and the U-M News Service. Foreman welcomes your comments, suggestions and other feedback at wforeman@umich.edu.
